Families need to feel welcomed within a Christian community in order to find meaning in suffering so difficult to accept.

  • Learn seriously about the complex reality of handicapped people;
  • Gather information about handicapped people in your area and what they need;
  • Do what you can to fill gaps in public and private services for handicapped people, and to create meaningful and supportive initiatives (transportation for those unable to travel alone — home care services — hospitality in family homes);
  • Start concrete initiatives that also raise awareness (for example, removing architectural barriers in the church);
  • Include handicapped people in parish groups and activities;
  • Help families of handicapped people overcome isolation and anxiety through personal friendship;
  • Make sure the voices of handicapped people and their families are always heard in your pastoral council;
  • Contact a Fede e Luce group for guidance.
