Small, brief scenes open and close across a few pages, illuminating nearly thirty years in the life of an extraordinary family. These scenes show more than they say. Gabriella Martino guides us through her life as though it were a symphony—with its own movements, its own pace, its colors and emotions. What begins "heavy and desperate" gradually becomes "serene and light." The book is dedicated to Giorgio Schirripa, a child psychiatrist in Viterbo whom the author met and who died too young. He taught her, as she writes, to "overcome our pain as different parents, always reminding us that the only thing that matters is that our children be happy... not normal."
