What a Degree Is

I went to my dear friend Giacomo's graduation party in Montevarchi. I took the train there and even slept overnight in Montevarchi. I was so happy he invited me to the party. There were more than a hundred people. Even more than that. Giacomo told me my seat at the table was right next to him and I was very happy. We took photos too. And we played a lot—I didn't know the game but everyone laughs so much, with all his friends there were so many of them. It was such a beautiful party.

I love going to parties when people invite me. I always go and always say yes right away. Then they had me read his thesis, and Giacomo had written that he thanks Benedetta—that's me—his dear friend who calls his family every evening. It's true that every evening after 8 o'clock I call his family and I want to talk to everyone. Whenever Giacomo told me he had an exam I always said a prayer for him. He always got the highest grade.

A degree is when you finish university—which is a school where you study after you finish regular school, which is where I go now. A degree is like the final exam I'm taking soon because you only get it at the end of school. And when you finish university you have to write a thesis really well. Then you throw a party and eat to celebrate. And you have to take photos wearing green flowers on your head. Giacomo wore a jacket and tie.

I was happy to go to Montevarchi because I like traveling around and going on lots of trips. By train too. I sleep a lot on the train. First I put on headphones to watch videos on my phone and listen to songs. But then I fall asleep right away. I make sandwiches to eat before I fall asleep, otherwise when I wake up I'm hungry. That's how I'm organized—I figured out how to do train trips the right way.

Giacomo has two sisters—Elisabetta, who goes to university, and Sara, who is my dear friend and who is taking her final exams like me right now but she's in classical high school—and I hope they graduate soon too so we can have another beautiful party in Montevarchi.
