Dear readers of Ombre e Luci,
this issue should reach you—barring the usual printing and postal delays—around Easter time.
A year ago, many of you, members of Fede e Luce, were with us at Lourdes for the international pilgrimage "Toward Unity," which gathered a vast crowd from around the world for five unforgettable days.
They were intense days, lived in the joy of finding ourselves together—young and old—as a family that keeps growing and welcomes people from other Christian churches and other faiths.
We could not help but mark this event, which touched our hearts, in the firm belief that the most vulnerable and defenseless among us are capable, when welcomed and surrounded by affection and dedication, of building unity around them, of breaking down walls of division, of overcoming prejudice, and most importantly, of transforming our own hearts. Those subscribers who did not participate in this pilgrimage will find in our Lourdes section texts and testimonies to help them understand the world of Fede e Luce more fully.

In the pages that follow, two parents share their stories. Manuela's father tells us how his daughter has benefited from the educational rehabilitation offered by the teachers of the Lega del Filo d'Oro in Osimo. Heartfelt congratulations to all involved, especially to Manuela, whom we wish continued progress.

Thibaut's mother and father share with us in deeply felt words the pain of facing one of the most devastating handicaps, and the moral and emotional strength they have found to accompany and support a son struck by progressive muscular atrophy.

Finally, Dr. Rhethoré in her letter invites a young physician to take on the responsibility of telling parents that their child is disabled. We believe this letter, drawn from vast experience and deep knowledge of the world of disability, can help all those who still feel uncertain and uncomfortable delivering news that has so often caused unnecessary pain simply because it was poorly communicated.

We invite our readers, if you see fit, to share this letter with pediatricians you know, and to ask us for sample copies or send us their addresses.

Happy reading to you all, with our warm Easter wishes from the editorial team.
