Recognizing the vital role that assistive devices play in the complex process of rehabilitation and social integration for people with severe disabilities, the Information and Assistive Device Assessment Service (SIVA) has released the findings of a pilot project aimed at providing, customizing, and training users in the home setting.

«SIVA was founded in 1980 through a collaboration between the Pro Juventute Don Carlo Gnocchi Foundation in Milan, the Center for Bioengineering, and the Center for Studies and Consultation on Disability, with the support of the Lombardy Region.

Its interdisciplinary team offers free consultation to disabled people and sector professionals on environmental adaptation solutions and the selection of assistive devices best suited to individual needs.

The organization has created and maintains a computerized database of assistive devices available on the market, companies and centers and associations working in the disability sector, legislation benefiting disabled people, and a curated bibliography in the field».
