The Disability Committee of Municipality X, an organization affiliated with FIRST, has partnered with the Italian Federation for Support and Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities to create a new documentary about siblings—brothers and sisters of people with severe disabilities.
Featuring the voice of Gigi Proietti, and backed by the free patronage of the Lazio Region, the Lazio Regional Council, Rome City Hall, Municipality X, and in partnership with "Uno Sguardo Raro—The Rare Disease International Film Festival," the Disability Committee of Municipality X presents "Through You": Stories of Siblings—a 2018 documentary.
The project took a full year to complete. It gathers the experiences and emotions of brothers and sisters of people with disabilities—what researchers call "siblings." The testimonies, collected from people aged 5 to 70, reveal the fears, joys, sorrows, responsibilities, and love that define a sibling bond that transcends ordinary notions of "normalcy."
The documentary aims to raise society's awareness of disability—to help people understand that supporting those who care for the most vulnerable is just as important as caring for the vulnerable themselves.
Written and directed by Pamela Pompei, with original music by OndeRoots and illustrations by Daniela Mascaro, the national premiere will screen at Cineland, Viale dei Romagnoli 515, Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m.
Attendance is free and by reservation while seats last.
To register, send an email with your name, surname, and number of attendees to: comitatodisabilitam10@gmail.com.
Following the screening, the video—subtitled in four languages—will be available on the Committee's YouTube channel.
