The World in a Fixed Point by Luigi Formola and Valerio Forconi (SaldaPress, 2024)

Arturo is an autistic teenager: he doesn't speak, he isn't independent, and he responds without enthusiasm to the efforts of friends and family. In the world around him—rendered in monochromatic blue—everything feels cold and distant. But inside, Arturo inhabits a universe ablaze with color, where imagination lets him be the author of his own life, unbounded. In this graphic novel for young readers, Formola (a special education teacher) and Forconi (illustrator) capture the dynamics of Arturo's relationships with striking clarity: on one side, the perspective of those beside an autistic person, constantly reaching out and trying to understand; on the other, the distance and silence of someone living this experience from within. The two worlds can meet, opening a path toward concrete independence, only through closeness—physical and emotional—built by walking alongside Arturo, in a journey where "every small step is a great victory."
