The Penalty Taker of Tyrrhenian Waters

From Benedetta's blog: all the sports she plays at the beach during summer vacation.
The Penalty Taker of Tyrrhenian Waters

At the beach I play a lot of sports. So many. All of them. First I go swimming. I like to swim on an air mattress and then on a kickboard too. On the mattress I lie down to get some sun, but I'm careful not to fall off. Nobody tries to splash me anymore because everyone knows I get mad and start screaming and won't stop. After I've had enough sun, I swim with the kickboard. I lean on my belly and kick hard. I make huge splashes. Then I like to dive and put my head under the water. Every time I drink a lot of water because I forget to keep my mouth closed. But that's okay.

Another sport I do at the beach is long jump. It's really easy. You make a line in the sand with your foot. Then you concentrate hard. You get a good running start and make a nice jump. It's very important to watch the line because if you step on it the jump doesn't count, it's no good. I even tried the triple jump but I get confused and it doesn't work. I'd love to do high jump but you can't do that on the beach.

Then another sport I do at the beach is bocce. I'm really good at it. I like going bowling and bocce is kind of the same. I pick the green and blue bocce balls—those are my colors. And I like throwing the orange pallino. Then another sport is running, but not much. In the sand it's exhausting and barefoot my feet hurt. Sometimes I do a little run right at the water's edge but it's awkward.

But I really love and have so much fun playing paddle ball. I play in the sand and with my feet in the water too. I'm very good because I can paddle the ball back and forth lots of times without dropping it. More than twenty sometimes. You have to be careful to hit it right so the ball doesn't fall. You have to hit it just right. Not too hard but not too soft either. Just right.

Another thing I like to do is walk. I go with people who organize fast walks. We walk into the center and back. I walk hard and almost run but without actually running. Another game I like to play at the beach is cards. Especially a game called rubamazzo and also "Uno." I like it because everyone laughs and it's not tiring at all. And then on the beach it's really fun to play soccer. I play with the good players but their ball is heavy and since I'm barefoot after two kicks my foot hurts. I like taking penalty shots with the goalie standing in the water. I take a running start and shoot it hard. Even though the ball is too hard. And I take about thirty penalty kicks. But then my foot really hurts. So I stop and watch the game while my foot feels better. If there's a penalty kick to take they call me and I go in and shoot.
