Cari amici ben trovati, on June 9, 2024, the Federal Swimming Center in Pietralata hosted a 12-hour swimming relay to support AISM Rome. The day aimed not only to raise funds but also—as I witnessed firsthand—to bring people with disabilities and non-disabled people together in the world of sport.
I can say that what I witnessed was more than emotional—I felt what "social inclusion" truly means. Every team included someone with a disability. Even the evaluation committee was mixed. For the first time in my athletic life, I saw two separate worlds genuinely unite around a single purpose: to raise awareness and help.
In my view, we need more days like June 9th—and more importantly, every organization should be able to replicate events like this one. That's how we move forward, both in sport and in countering social and athletic indifference.
