Stefan's Disability Pride: Comics, Art, and a Planet to Save

Stefan Nardosi is 24. Born in Romania, he was adopted by an Italian family when he was very young. He lives in Rome and has autism. He draws constantly—Spider Hulk, Pillow Man, creatures from his imagination rendered in watercolor on paper and canvas. But Stefan thinks about more than superheroes. His "Super Heart" is a tree shaped like a heart that "represents the will to clean the planet through ecology." Across many of his drawings runs the acronym T.V.B.—"Ti voglio Bene" (I care for you), he explains, "like Bernini's colonnades, meant to embrace everyone."

Stefan marched in Rome's Disability Pride, a major demonstration against prejudice and the barriers that disabled people face every day. The march wound through the streets of a capital city that remains off-limits for those with disabilities.
