"Manuela is starting to read and writes well. The only difficult thing, sometimes very hard, is train travel..."
"In the darkest and most painful moments, I flip through, read and reflect, I look at Ombre e Luci and my courage returns, the strength to go on, and I push away the thought of giving up."
Something is stirring
I receive your magazine Ombre e Luci regularly, and I've noticed especially in the latest issue that something is shifting. The photographs are beautiful—restored farmhouses, young people at work, meals shared together. Excellent photography. It reflects real life, and good life at that. Our Manuela is making progress. She communicates more and more, expressing her desires and her fears. This helps us support her better as she tackles new situations and changes. She's always happy near Chambéry, where she's doing well. She goes back willingly every time, which reassures us. She spends three days with us every fifteen days, and since the center follows the school calendar, we have her during holidays. At the center she participates in many activities: mornings include cooking, ironing, music, gymnastics, swimming, and horseback riding. In the afternoons she attends class with a teacher specially trained for her needs. Manuela is starting to read and writes well. The only difficult thing, sometimes very hard, is train travel. Her behavior often seems odd in public, and that's usually difficult with people around us. But I've grown used to it now, and I warn people as soon as I sense Manuela is becoming upset.

It helped me understand
I am the mother of a boy with cerebral palsy named Emanuele. He is eight years old. For the past year, he has been suffering from epileptic seizures. I want to tell you that an article in your magazine Ombre e Luci helped me so much in understanding this new suffering—his and ours. I thank you for a magazine so consoling for us as family members, and it has helped us understand his siblings better too. I would like to subscribe so I can receive it always, and I'm sending my subscription fee.

In dark moments
My heartfelt thanks for all the good I receive from Ombre e Luci. In the darkest and most painful moments, I flip through it, read and reflect, I look at Ombre e Luci and my courage returns—the strength to go on—and I push away the thought of giving up.
