When a four-legged friend enters your home, your life changes. Especially when there are people with disabilities in that home—I know this from experience. For five years now, I've had a beautiful Labrador named Gilda.
For me, she is my salvation in difficult moments. When I can't make sense of what's happening around me, she rests her soft muzzle on my legs—a look, a gentle touch—and somehow I know she understands how to calm me, how to make me laugh. I call her my princess because for five years she has filled my days with light.
Gilda, you are the best thing that could have happened to me in this life, even if sometimes you are a little mischievous.
