Archival content: this article was published more than 10 years ago. The language and content reflect the sensitivities of the time.

This book gathers testimonies from parents of children with Down syndrome, written between 2003 and 2005 on an online forum where dozens of mothers and fathers shared their fears, struggles, and hopes about the different stages of their child's growth.

After the forum closed, some of its contributors decided to revive it on a new domain (pianetadown.org) and bring together the most meaningful testimonies in this substantial collection, organized by theme: diagnosis, therapy, behavior, and social integration.

Written in refreshingly plain and conversational language, faithfully mirroring the forum's original structure, this book offers comfort and a space for genuine connection to parents in similar situations. It speaks to those who, like its contributors, navigate a world in which their children "walk clumsily but not alone, and are seen by others as a bit of strangers… like penguins in the desert."
