Dear friends, September 11th was a day of deep sorrow: Aldo, a cherished member of our San Giuseppe della Pace Community, passed away.
He was a truly special person who, even through illness during this time of covid when we were all kept apart, never failed to send the whole group a daily message of hope. He had been part of our Community for thirteen years.
I remember the first time he came to "the little house," introduced by Carmen, whom he was friends with.
He made a wonderful impression on me and everyone in the Community right away.
He was always willing to help.
He assisted everyone generously, and always with a smile.
This past year he suffered greatly from a serious illness that he did not survive. The Lord called him home, welcoming him, I imagine, with open arms.
Thank you, Aldo. We will always remember you. You were an important presence, a treasure to our beautiful Community.

My memories of Aldo are tied to the summer camp in Cesenatico, which he attended every year. He looked forward to that annual gathering and was always happy about it.
The images I hold are of Aldo in shorts and a t-shirt, his small bag, a newspaper, and his beloved pipe. Him reading the paper on the beach or at the bar at the Colonia, then passing it to anyone who wanted to read it.
Aldo always ready to help the young people get in and out of the sea or the pool: he had the spirit of Faith and Light.
During this covid period we were all apart… but we stayed close through video calls on WhatsApp. Aldo was happy to see his friends again, to greet them. It took so little to make him happy—a phone call or photos from our gatherings. Simple, brief moments that meant everything to him: a good morning message or a good night message.
I'm grateful to have known you. Thank you for everything. Wherever you are, a warm embrace. You will be missed. You will all be missed.
