Therefore, each one, according to their capacity, can receive religious education—and we have a duty to provide it. But how can we offer religious education to those with mental handicaps? Hundreds of parents, teachers, and priests anxiously ask where to turn for guidance. This book is an attempt to answer that question. It was written at the request of the Episcopal Conference of England and Wales, offered as a first word rather than a last on the subject. We know well that we are exploring new ground. We hope others will feel encouraged to enter this field, where there is so much to learn and where real help is needed."
This is a small text we recommend to all—priests, parents, friends—because it is written with faith and great humility, with clarity and simplicity. I know the author personally, and I know the love and dedication he has given for more than twenty years to children and adolescents with mental handicaps, helping them come to know God's love for them and for their parents.
