"Just as a captain and crew steer a boat through a storm and bring it safely back to port, so the adolescent self must weather the inner tempests of that age, learning ever more to take hold of the helm of his own life."

Mal di Mare Sailing School invited a group of mentally handicapped young people from the Loïc Frances Lee Association to undertake a residential sailing experience at its facility in Pescia Marina in 1999. A year of preparation followed, with classroom instruction and practical outings—on small sailing boats at Lake Martignano, on larger vessels at Cala Galera—and a week of sailing school as guests in Pescia Romana.

On May 20, 2001, four young people from Casa Loïc, accompanied by one of their educators, took part in the HANDY CUP regatta at Cala Galera (Porto Ercole), organized by the associations Mal di Mare, Loïc Frances Lee, Oppo, and Le Sue Stanze, together with the Monte Argentario Sailing Club.

The event concluded with a celebration that delighted everyone.
