An easy read, despite its subject: a man loses his wife in a car accident—a woman he promised to love "forever"—who was carrying their second child, along with their young son. Suffering at the edge of what humans can bear. And the questions it raises have no answers: When does the pain end? Where is God? Who is this God?
As I read, I felt I was facing a novel assembled by formula: so many ingredients, so many characters, so many resolutions. I was wrong. While I wouldn't call it a "groundbreaking" novel, I can recommend it to anyone who wants to sit with some fundamental questions about life itself.
