At the Church of Santa Maria Regina Pacis in Monteverde, in Rome, the Vedere Oltre Onlus Association organizes a formative program on the Christian initiation of children and young people with disabilities. It is a fundamental theme that we have addressed several times on these pages (here is the page that collects some of the most significant articles).
The course is dedicated "to all catechists, educators, religious sisters, religious brothers, and priests who would like to commit themselves to creating a space for Proclamation truly for everyone," and thus to guarantee access to the sacraments of Christian initiation which, even today, does not appear to be completely open to people with disabilities, especially those with intellectual or relational disabilities. The initiative is supported by the Catechetical Office of the Diocese of Rome. There will be four meetings each Friday, each lasting one hour and thirty minutes (7:00 pm–8:30 pm): the first half hour will be dedicated to the presentation of a theme by a speaker, the following hour will be open to discussion, as free and sincere as possible, so that doubts, uncertainties, and fears that disability inevitably generates—especially in those who decide to take charge of it—may emerge without constraint. The content of the catechesis will not be discussed, as that is a matter within the competence of the educators who wish to participate. The appointments:
