Aging with Intellectual Disability: New Challenges, New Horizons

Anffas Onlus Cagliari is hosting the seminar "Aging and Intellectual Disability: Challenges and Perspectives," scheduled for March 21, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the T Hotel, Via Dei Giudicati, 66, Cagliari.

From the program description:

Life expectancy has risen dramatically in recent years—a trend that extends to people with intellectual disabilities, who increasingly face the aging process alongside their families. Research conducted nationally and internationally shows that aging in people with intellectual disabilities requires specialized attention, supported by multifaceted and evidence-based interventions.
Yet our region's welfare system and dedicated services appear unprepared to meet the specific needs of these individuals and their families.
This seminar aims to address these emerging challenges through an integrated approach, drawing on the scientific expertise and lived experience of our panelists, and opening dialogue with technical specialists and regional decision-makers.
By day's end, we hope to establish a working group dedicated to this issue, developing preventive solutions and intervention strategies.
