A President Writes Back

«Dear Benedetta," writes the President of the Republic, "I thank you very much for your letter published in 'Ombre e Luci.'" You may remember that in her most recent diary entry (O&L no. 151), Benedetta had written to "Sergio Mattarella, as I like to call you," updating him on remote learning and, above all, urging him to reopen the schools. "I imagine that — after your seaside holiday — you have by now returned to school in your new location on via della Pigna," Mattarella continues in the letter that arrived at our office, "and I am sure that you are both happy to be back and studying with the same fine results as always." Benedetta thanked the President with a video you can watch below. We join her in that gratitude, extending it to recognize the constant attention he has shown throughout his tenure as Italy's twelfth President toward citizens who are most vulnerable and in need.
