The Ages of Miss Uffa – Newsletter No. 17

Miss Uffa has many faces: she's fed up with anyone who treats disability as a frozen monolith; she's tired of roles that would confine her to the sidelines; she's frustrated because post-lockdown outings are riddled with restrictions. Fortunately, there are inclusive festivals, theater workshops that transform those who take part, and unforgettable panzerotti… In short, she's half-exasperated and half-hopeful.
The Ages of Miss Uffa – Newsletter No. 17

The analysis – Like everyone else, people with disabilities are born, grow, and age, which means their needs, rhythms, and desires shift over the years. Obvious? Unfortunately not. The tired old story of the eternal child keeps people with disabilities trapped in an enormous flypaper, notes Giulia Galeotti (who also tells us about the times her sight was blurred or simply wrong).

The testimony – On one side of the stage, a ten-year-old girl covered in nativity scenery paper; on the other, a young woman who finally finds the key to connecting with the world. Starting from very different places, the theater experiences that shaped Laura Coccia and Veronica into the women they are deserve careful attention. On the subject of performance, we offer you a review from then and one from now: a 1981 account of the «second great flood in history» taken from Insieme (the mimeographed bulletin that would become Ombre e Luci magazine) and days from the Pathology Film Festival, covered for us by Claudio Cinus.

The recipe – Some knead them, some fry them, some bring them to the table, and some do the panther leap: from Bari to you, the secrets of the best Apulian panzerotti.

Faith and Light Life

Summer camps – A joint letter from president Angela Gattulli and international chaplain Fr. Marco Bove clarifies the decision not to organize summer camps for 2020. The call is to find alternatives that protect everyone's health.

Fr. Marco's videos – Fr. Marco's videos, created to accompany us spiritually before and after Easter, have been a hit on Facebook. The latest, dedicated to Pentecost, will soon be available with English and French subtitles. Though the series has wrapped (for now!), the videos continue to be a tool for sharing and communion, and will always be available on the website and on YouTube.
